Kailee McGee is a filmmaker and writer who blurs the line between reality and fiction.

Below are Kailee’s SELECTS:

Movies
The Birdcage by Mike Nichols
1996

I saw this movie in theaters when it came out in 1996; I was eight years old. I’ve watched ‘The Birdcage’ countless times and reference it even more. This film raised me in a lot of ways, and it feels like home inside of a movie.

Miscellaneous
Weather Report by David Lynch
2020

For two years, I started my day with David Lynch talking about the L.A. weather and sharing lighthearted musings before choosing a “Number of the Day” one to ten. My favorite number is seven, so I always hoped for a seven and felt an extra sparkle when it was a seven day. He stopped the series in August 2022. I miss the daily glimpse into his world, which made mine feel brighter and more magical.

Number of the Day by David Lynch

Movies
Bowfinger by Frank Oz
1999

Keep it together! I love movies about making movies. And, I love movies set in Los Angeles. And, I love twins. So, this movie checks a lot of boxes for me. It’s also my favorite slice of Steve Martin.

Short Film
Rachel by Andrew DeYoung
2019

Andy DeYoung, John Early, and Kate Berlant are great at creating quality and hilarious no budge content. This short is an inspiring example of what is possible with the “let’s get our friends together to make a movie for no money in one night.”

Miniseries
Station Eleven by Patrick Somerville
2021

The pilot of ‘Station Eleven’ is incredible. Standout, heartfelt, visually stunning. This was my introduction to Himesh Patel, and his performance really moved me.

Documentary
F for Fake by Orson Welles
1976

The first 15 minutes of this film rocked my socks. Hard to believe this came out in 1973. Every element slaps especially the editing and metaness.

Movies
Irma Vep by Olivier Assayas
1996

Just watched this for the first time last week, and oh boy, I loved it so much. As I mentioned, I love movies about making movies, and I love when people play versions of themselves.
