1 Terms & Conditions (Membership)
— There is no guarantee that submitted work will be selected or shared by DIRECTORS’ LIBRARY. Our curatorial focus evolves over time, and selections are made in response to the work we feel most strongly aligned with at any given moment.
— Selected projects will be published on the DIRECTORS’ LIBRARY website. Please note that not all selected work will be shared on our Instagram.
— Filmmakers will be notified of the outcome of their submission. While we carefully review all work, we are unfortunately unable to offer individual feedback at this time.
— Submitting companies must have had active involvement in the projects they submit.
— We do not consider projects with a runtime exceeding 40 minutes, works-in-progress, or trailers.
— Only work released online within the past two months is eligible for consideration. Pay-to-view platforms and password-protected online festivals are excluded from this timeframe.
— Every submission is handled with utmost care and respect. Particularly in consideration of longer runtimes, if we are confident a project is not right for our platform, we may conclude our review prior to completion.
— Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and will expire automatically.
— Membership fees are strictly non-refundable. Submissions are reviewed as part of an active curatorial process, and work is undertaken regardless of the outcome.
2 Selection Criteria (Submissions)
We acknowledge that every project has unique merits, and so, we remain flexible when viewing each submission. However, we often look for a combination of the categories below:
— Narrative / Development
— Originality / Creativity
— Craft / Proficiency
— Timeliness / Relevance
— Beauty / Truth
Please understand that we only select a small number of the videos we receive.
We will notify you on the status of your submission, however, at this time we are unable to offer feedback.
We encourage you to share work with us prior to its release, however, we do not accept works-in-progress, trailers, or projects with a runtime exceeding 40 minutes in length.
If your film is already publicly viewable online, we only consider work that has been released within the past two months, pay-to-view platforms and online password-protected festivals do not count toward this date.
3 Release Details (Submissions)
— Added to our Library
Your project will be added to our website and be featured across both the homepage and under the relevant category pages. This includes the related and suggested boxes throughout the site.
All projects selected will be posted to the DIRECTORS’ LIBRARY website, but please note that not every selection will be posted to our Instagram.
If your project has already been uploaded to YouTube, we will add it to one of our public playlists. If your project has not yet been uploaded to YouTube, we welcome hosting it on our channel. To do so, we require confirmation that the filmmakers hold all necessary rights.
We reserve the right to remove any video from our Library or social media accounts at any time.
We occasionally invite directors to participate in our SELECTS series.
4 Conduct
We take great care in curating the platform. All editorial decisions are made with consideration and are final. Every filmmaker who submits work understands that the process is highly competitive and subjective. Our yearly submission volume rivals that of major festivals, and as a result, only a small percentage of work can be featured. Like all major festivals, we have a specific focus and curatorial criteria that, by its nature, will exclude work.
We ask that all communication with our team remains respectful and professional at all times. Failure to do so may result in termination of membership.
5 Ethics & Attribution
We value the diverse talents of our community and want to ensure transparency and respect for intellectual property. We believe in fostering a platform that supports remixing and the building upon of ideas, but respects the creative contributions previously made by others.
When making a submission, you will be asked if the project contains sequences heavily influenced or inspired by an existing work as well as if you intend to include credits, statements, or other means of attribution to the original creators and/or source material.
In the event that a dispute is raised regarding the integrity of a project shared on the platform, and where we believe there are sufficient grounds, our policy is to temporarily remove the project. We then encourage a private dialogue between the filmmakers in order to reach a resolution. Once all parties are satisfied, the project may be reinstated on the DIRECTORS’ LIBRARY website and social channels.
