Below are Helena’s SELECTS:
For me, the best music video of all. Simple concept, under 2 minutes, with an iconic song and a timeless band at its peak. What more do you want?
I mostly got my early music video education from TV during sick days. I couldn’t wait for this one to appear. For a kid, cartoon + music are the perfect combo.
There’s too many great French music video directors to choose from (Gondry, Courtes, Mondino, Helmi, Sednaoui…), so I’ll go with Jonas & François, who made at 25, an instant classic.
Big Levi’s ad fan here. They were a playground for many talented directors (Fincher, Glazer, Budgen…) to leave their mark. This one with a young Brad Pitt on 35mn is as cool as it gets. Kick ass song too.
Made in two versions (Girl/Boy), I still wonder how they got some of these shots. Gondry is truly one of the greats.
Still going strong in the 2000’s. Just pure cool.
Trailers are so fun. When well made they can be better than the full feature. It’s spooky season so here’s 3 great horror movie trailers, starting with the banned trailer for The Exorcist (made by Friedkin himself).
They should have used that title in the movie… With a Giallo spin on Hitchcock’s Psycho and the use of Goblin soundtrack, this trailer is solid gold.
Simple, one song, under 1mn. Teasers might be even cooler than trailers. Never saw the movie though.
