LX — Roger Guàrdia
Roger Guàrdia is a NYC-based director working internationally in music videos and commercials.

Below are Roger’s SELECTS:

This is a compilation of things I like: from my past, my present and my future. Things that resonated with me and/or felt attracted to. Good or bad, dark or light.

Let’s start from the beginning:

Film
Bambi by David D. Hand
United States
1942

A classic coming of age story. Every frame is crafted beautifully and the colors they used are amazing. I used to love it when I was a kid together with ‘The Jungle Book’.

Series
DragonBall Z by Daisuke Nishio
Japan
1993

Iconic scene from DragonBall Z. The Catalan version. I have had a scar on my cheek since I was 4 years old. So I saw myself reflected here as a little kid as well.

Film
Rapture by Iván Zulueta
Spain
1980

Masterpiece. Dark, sensual, mysterious from the ’70s… This is one of my favorite movies. Iván Zulueta was a true visionary, a visual mastermind. One of the most important directors in Spanish cinema in my opinion. He only directed one movie and several shorts. An “Artista maldito”. A Spanish “enfant terrible”.

Film
The Lovers on the Bridge by Leos Carax
France
1991

Pop culture meets genre cinema meets poetry. Leos Carax has this ability to combine that in his films. One of my favourite films with iconic scenes. I really love it.

Film
The Exterminating Angel by Luis Buñuel
Mexico
1962

This is also a masterpiece. The OG. Buñuel was the top one.

Short Film
Ice Cream, Ice Cream by Antoni Padrós
Spain
1970

Erotic underground Spanish short film. LSD and psychedelic vibes.

Short Film
Flex by Chris Cunningham
United Kingdom
2000

This is also one of my favorite films ever. CC is probably one of the most important and influential directors for new generations. And he never jumped into long format.

Film
Under the Skin by Jonathan Glazer
United Kingdom
2014

I also love this movie so much. The atmosphere created, the simplicity of the story and the direction approach are amazing.

Film
Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo
Japan
1988

Iconic. Not a lot of words needed I feel.

Film
Lost in Translation by Sofia Coppola
United States & Japan
2003

Beautiful story & beautifully directed. One of the movies I watched more times in my life. It transmits me a lot of peace and tenderness.

Film
Happy as Lazzaro by Alice Rohrwacher
Italy
2018

Alice Rohrwacher is one of the most interesting contemporary directors in my opinion. Her cinema feels so fresh and classic at the same time.

Music Video
‘Embrujada’ Tino Casal by José Luis Lozano
Spain
1983

This Spanish music video is from the early 80s. It feels ahead of its time.

Music Video
‘Philadelphia 88’ Fugazi
United States
1988

This footage is amazing. The energy and the wildness. Hardcore punk.
